We are driven by a desire to shift the demand for plastic toys and replace them with high-quality, eco-friendly, 'real' play items for open-ended play. Angela Stone launched ProjectPlay NZ Ltd in 2021. It's a family-run New Zealand business that helps parents explore the many benefits of heuristic play, and ignite the imaginations of their children. Heuristic play is all about supporting curiosity, wonder, imagination and free exploration. Working alongside her husband Jono, they provide families, educators, ECE centers and organizations with a vast range of open-ended play items and educational resources, allowing children to select, explore, manipulate and compare items with each other, while engaging in their own learning through play. At ProjectPlay, we value real, authentic play experiences for children. Inspired by Montessori, Rudolph Steiner and Pikler philosophies, we also support the theory of loose parts, offering quality, eco-friendly play items to ignite the imagination.
In the beginning, like most small businesses, we started our journey making heuristic sets on our kitchen table. It was while Angela, our founder, was on maternity leave with her first child that she learnt how to create a website, figured out packaging, a shipping strategy, and growing social media, all while learning the ropes of motherhood! Then, as our business grew and more and more families learned the benefits of open-ended play, we expanded our product line and moved to the spare room. We have since expanded even further, with an upgrade from the spare room to our garage. We can see real growth happening and we're excited about what the future holds for ProjectPlay. While a successful, profitable business is important to us, at the end of the day, the greatest importance for our business is to play a significant role in the success of the next generation of New Zealanders. We whole-heartedly stand by our products and believe that they can make a huge difference to a child's learning and development. A People's Choice vote for ProjectPlay, to us, is a BIG thumbs up to the future generation of Kiwi kids!
