About My Business

Wild Chix is a New Zealand business built on one simple idea: every woman deserves the chance to learn the outdoors properly — without judgement, without pressure, and without being the only woman in the room. Founded by Isabell, who saw too many women sitting on the sidelines while their partners, fathers and brothers fished, hunted and skippered the boat, Wild Chix has grown into a national community of women learning to do it themselves. From the woman who's never set foot on a boat to the one who's been crewing for years and finally wants to take the helm — Wild Chix meets her exactly where she is. We run hands-on courses across boating, fishing, hunting and diving — taught by an all-women instructor team who know what it's like to learn this stuff late, learn it alone, or learn it under pressure. Our courses include: Boating Basics and Boating Boot Camp — for women who want to confidently launch, drive and own the boat Women's Day on the Water — the day she finally gets behind the wheel, in a space where mistakes are expected and welcomed Intro to Fishing and Wild Catches — from her first cast to seasoned angler(ettes ;-)) who want to surround themselves with likeminded Chix. Intro to Hunting — real-world skills, real safety, no scare tactics, meat handling and more Dock to Destination — overnight planning and navigation for women ready to skipper their own trips and lots more! What makes Wild Chix different isn't the gear or the locations — it's the room. It's the woman in her sixties who says it's the first time she's ever felt allowed to ask the "dumb" questions. It's the mum who came on her own and left with four new friends and a snapper in the chilly bin. It's the wife who finally backed the trailer down the ramp without anyone watching over her shoulder. Wild Chix is where women stop being passengers in the lives they love — and start being skippers, anglers, hunters and divers in their own right.

Why We Should Win The Peoples Choice Award

Hi — I'm Isabell, and I started Wild Chix because I was tired of watching women like me sit at the back of the boat. I'd seen it for years during my employment for a boat manufacturer, where I was selling boats to always men... Brilliant, capable women — mothers, partners, friends — quietly stepping back the moment the trailer hit the water, the rod came out, or the firearm appeared. Not because they couldn't. Because no one ever showed them how, and the spaces where it gets shown were never really for them. So I built one that is. This is what your vote means to a real woman Last year, a woman wrote this to me after her Intro to Hunting course: "Signing up has to have been the best decision I've made. The experience was so uplifting and healing. I learnt so much from some incredible women. I love that it's run by women, for women. I walked away feeling more confident and proud of myself for giving it a go. There is just something so empowering about getting out there, out of your comfort zone with a group of like-minded women doing the same thing." She has been back for a second course, and a third is already booked. Stories like hers are not rare at Wild Chix. They are the norm. And every vote you cast helps get one more woman like her into the room. Why I'm asking you to vote Wild Chix is still small enough that recognition like the David Awards genuinely changes what happens next. A People's Choice win means more women hear about us, more partners come on board, more regions get a course on their map, and more women who have been waiting their whole life to learn finally see permission to come and try. If you have ever felt like the only woman in a room you wanted to belong in — if you have ever wished someone would just invite you and show you — your vote is for the next woman who is still waiting. If you have a daughter, a sister, a mother, a friend who has spent years watching from the sidelines — your vote is for her. If you are one of the 800+ women who has already walked through a Wild Chix course — your vote is for the next 800. Wild Chix is two years old. We are self-funded, we are growing fast, and we are doing work no one else has stepped up to do. Voting is free. It takes thirty seconds. It costs you nothing — and it gives a fledgling Kiwi business a real shot at the spotlight that gets the next chapter started. Please vote for Wild Chix in The David Awards People's Choice. Then send the link to one woman in your life who you reckon needs to know we exist. That's how this gets bigger. That's how more women get off the sidelines. That's the whole point. Isabell x
