About My Business
Written by family. Moving to New Zealand at just 20 years old with no English, they defied the odds to study at culinary school in Auckland. Eventually making their way to Wānaka, they spent years honing their craft as chefs in the local community before finally taking the ultimate leap of faith. Rav and Deep opened their Indian-Kiwi inspired food truck in Lake Hāwea in October 2024 with a simple goal: to share great homemade food and become part of the community. Starting with a second-hand food truck in the Longview subdivision, they never imagined how much support they would receive from locals and visitors. Since then, their business has grown steadily, allowing them to upgrade their original truck, open a second food truck launching Wingin’ It Pizzeria with Harry, Rav’s brother and cater events throughout the region with a brand new third food truck. Running a food truck in Lake Hāwea hasn’t always been easy. Between strong winds, changing weather, and the challenges that come with a small outdoor business, there have been plenty of obstacles along the way. However, the encouragement from the community has kept them going. More than anything, Rav and Deep are grateful for the people who have supported them from day one. Whether it’s families stopping by for dinner, workers grabbing lunch, or visitors discovering them for the first time, every customer has played a part in their journey. What started as a dream has become a business they are incredibly proud of, and they look forward to continuing to serve the community that helped make it possible.
Why We Should Win The Peoples Choice Award
They Built a Local Culinary Hub From Scratch: Rav and Deep turned a small subdivision off the main tourist track into a vibrant food destination. By introducing authentic Indian-Kiwi flavours and expanding to Wingin’ It Pizzeria, they added to Lake Hāwea’s dining scene, giving locals great food right on their doorstep. Voting for them rewards true grassroots entrepreneurship. Overcoming language barriers and intense outdoor weather challenges, they scaled a single second-hand food truck into a multi-unit business that hires locally, caters regional events, and actively invests back into our neighbourhood.
