Study Nook is a specialist learning support service for children and young people who learn differently. Many of the learners we work with are dyslexic, and many have the kind of neuro-sparkly and neuro-spicy minds that a busy classroom does not always have the time to reach. We support maths, reading, spelling and writing, teaching in the way children actually learn. Our teaching is explicit, structured and grounded in the science of learning: step-by-step instruction built on decades of research into how the brain builds new skills. In reading, this approach is known as Structured Literacy, the method recognised internationally for supporting children with dyslexia and other learning differences, and we bring the same evidence-based teaching to maths. Every child begins with a diagnostic assessment, so we understand exactly where their strengths and challenges are. From there we teach an individual pathway, one secure skill at a time, in calm, focused, device-free sessions. What families notice first is not the method, though. It is the change in their child. A child who used to melt down at the thought of learning after school starts to settle into it. A child who had decided they were not clever starts to believe something better about themselves. We never treat a learning difference as a fault to be put right. We treat every learner as capable, and we teach to their strengths. Study Nook began in January 2024. In two and a half years we have grown to support 108 learners every week, working inside eight local schools and online, alongside a team of qualified specialist teachers. Families, schools, educational psychologists, occupational therapists and paediatricians now send children our way, because they trust what happens here. We also believe good learning support should not depend on what a family can afford. Through our Learner Sponsorship Programme, local businesses fund six months of support for children whose families cannot, and we are building a library of downloadable resources so families can support Home Learning too. At Study Nook, different is not a disadvantage. It is a different kind of brilliant, and every child deserves to feel that about themselves.

We are a small, home-grown business on a mission that is bigger than us: to make sure children who learn differently are taught in the way their brains actually learn, and to make sure no child misses out because of what their family can afford. Behind Study Nook is a lot of heart, and a lot of long days. We started with no clients and a leap of faith, and we have grown because families told other families, and because schools and specialists trust what we do. Every child who walks through our door is taught by someone who believes in them, using methods grounded in real science, in sessions where they feel safe to try, whether they are working on reading, writing or maths. What we are perhaps proudest of is who we refuse to leave out. Through our Learner Sponsorship Programme, we bring local businesses together to fund support for children whose families cannot afford it, so that a child's chance to learn does not come down to money. We are building free and low-cost resources for families to use at home, and we are working towards becoming a service that wraps around a whole family, not just a single lesson. We do this because we have seen what happens when a child who was struggling finally gets the right teaching. They light up. They grow. They start to believe something new about themselves. That moment is why we do all of it.
